November 2025 - Chapter Meeting
Implementing Speaker Training for Technical Professionals
Are you hesitant to stand up in front of the room and speak to a bunch of SMEs on a topic they understand better than you? How do you ensure your learners walk away and use the new skills and knowledge you just presented? Are you working with a SME who just isn't getting how to present information to the class? This month's meeting is designed to help you answer those questions.
Technical professionals can struggle with giving presentations, especially to non-technical audiences. Want a way to make it less difficult? Implement a speaker training program. Join Neil Thompson, founder of Teach the Geek, in this insightful webinar tailored for TD leaders looking to help technical staff hone their speaking skills.
In this month's meeting we will
- Learn how to identify and address specific challenges technical staff face in public speaking.
- Discover effective methods for providing opportunities to practice speaking and get constructive feedback.
- Understand the importance of tracking progress and measuring the impact of speaker training programs.

After one too many failed presentations, Neil Thompson, an engineer who worked in the medical device industry, knew he had to improve. He did so, and now, via his company Teach the Geek, he works with technical professionals to improve their presentation skills. He’s the creator of the Teach the Geek to Speak public speaking course, geared towards those in the technical fields. He also hosts the Teach the Geek podcast, interviewing technical professionals about their public speaking journeys.
